What is the difference between Windows Server and UNIX?

The basic difference between Microsoft Windows Server and UNIX is the price. Unix is more open source and requires minimum hardware to perform which dramatically reduces the deployment cost. Windows server needs more resources to perform and are often less customisable. Windows Server is compulsory in most cases if you are building an ASP.Net website and planning to host on Windows Hosting platform.
